Free Google Apps account, no longer signup

Starting today, Google no longer accepting new sign-ups for the free version of Google Apps.

This change has no impact on existing owners of free accounts, they  can continue to use Google Apps for free.

Upgrading to Paid version : $5/user/mo or $50/user/y (paid version comes with: 24/7 customer support, 25Gb/inbox and 99.9% up-time.

For those who do not know:

Free version of Google apps means you can have your emails system hosted on Google servers and your email address can be @YOUR_OWN_DOMAIN. The free versions of Google Apps initially allowed unlimited numbers of email addresses, then were allowed 10 email addresses (7Gb space for all of them)

What you may know:

  • 24×7 customer support may be not quite 24×7. It can be a just a very personal experience but expect delays when you launch a ticket request.
  • 99.9 up-time is not quite good, it means 36.5 days the email may not work and you as consumer must be happy.

Based on history and on the fact that finally “FREE STUFF” will not be found anymore on the net I am positive that sooner or later the Free Apps users has to start paying as well. If you are one of them try to reduce number of emails to the strictly necessary.

Taking the good part of this story I hope that doing this Google will provide high quality services and a better customer experience.
